A Conversation with Barb – Finding My North
Barb Hill is a survivor and mental health advocate.
Barb’s journey has included traumatic childhood experiences, domestic violence and the devastating loss of her daughter to SIDS. Due to grief, Barb battled with addiction and a profound sense of failure.
But it was when Barb was admitted to a mental health hospital that things began to change. She received support from organisations and support workers, she found the strength to rebuild her life, and learned how to advocate for herself and others.
Her own experiences navigating the complexities of mental health systems have fueled Barb’s passion for advocacy and support. She is involved with the Real Mates Talk project, a community initiative aimed at breaking down stigma surrounding mental health, facilitating honest conversations, and connecting men with the support they need.
Barb’s story is one of hope and self-responsibility.
Through her advocacy work and community initiatives, Barb continues to inspire others to find their own path to recovery.
